Description:
Comet is a black and white Overo grade Tennessee Walker gelding with lots of life in him for trail riding. He is a lead horse, forward and fast walking, and has excellent ground manners (vet, blacksmith, grooming, tying, mounting, hosing, etc.) while never showing bad vices (i.e. no biting/kicking/rearing/bucking/pulling back etc.). He has been good with dogs, cats, chickens, cows, & vehicles from my experience with him. He loads and trailers well, and can be alone or around other horses. We have had him over two years, but our circumstances have changed with my husband having various surgeries that aren't healing to extent hoped for, plus we haven't been able to set up a good winter environment at home as we had expected so we've boarded him out the last two winters (and would have to continue doing that in the future unfortunately). He's been the only horse for half the year when he's at our place, and then had his own stall/paddock while boarded over winter - he's been fine with both ways. I had hoped to get a pony for the grandkids and then he could have company here, but I know we won't be able to do that at this point; I have led a grandchild on Comet and he's just fine with that. He walks through puddles (we were told by his previous owner that he'd go into a lake and splash, but we don't have a pond or place to allow him that great fun in the summer!). He's a very smart and alert horse and notices things, but I've only known him to do a bit of a startle occasionally...nothing experienced riders aren't used to. I have ridden him mostly in a ring/arena and only lightly. He's easy to get going again, and lounges well. Comet is quite an easy keeper, doing well on grass hay and a small amount of grain into which I add vitamins and hoof supplement for good measure. He love treats, especially carrots and apples! I keep front shoes on him (he was just trimmed/reshod July 23) and he's up to date on spring shots and deworming, plus had teeth floated this spring with a very good report from the horse dentist
